La Maison Sur La Place

La Maison Sur La Place... where to start.

La Maison Sur La Place is in quite possibly one of the prettiest little villages in the Lot-Et-Garrone and is somewhere I have wanted to stay at for quite a few years now. Every year my mother and I would jump in the car and head from our families village not too far away to check out the beautiful little store that La Maison Sur La Place owns, and every year we wonder just what the hotel looks like inside.

So this year I decided to take the plunge and book a room there. I was a little worried as it doesn't have a pool and this part of France is very, very hot this time of year. But all worries were quickly swept aside as the lovely owner Genevieve opened the door to her cool and breezy hotel.

Inside was a wash of beautiful whites and sanded down wood, different textures making up a warm and cosy feeling despite the lack of colour. Interesting sculptures and pictures lined the walls and I knew that I had made the right decision to stay there.

We climbed the little staircase to our room and I honestly think my heart gave a little flutter as she opened the door and I saw the beautiful space we would call home for the next couple of nights. Large, spacious, bright and airy with stunning furniture and big bathroom one floor up. Was I in heaven?

On day one we had breakfast in the courtyard, beautiful organic homemade jams and yogurts, my obligatory chocolat chaud (because what on earth else is there to drink avec le petit dejeuner when in France and one doesn't drink coffee!). It was so peaceful to be sat in the pretty little courtyard taking in the architecture of Penne.

On day two it was raining a little... go figure, I didn't need to worry about the lack of pool at all, so we ate breakfast inside, the same spread as the day before but just as fresh and yummy as it was then with a different homemade fruit compote.

I was very sad to wave goodbye to this little slice of heaven and Genevieve was so lovely, but it was time to venture on to our next hotel a little close to the family.

If you'd like to book La Maison Sur La Place you can do so here.
